A student of the Imo State University has died after he drowned in a soak away pit while trying to escape from his friend during the celebration of his final exams. It was meant to be a celebration of a great achievement but it ended up a calamitous tragedy following the death of a student of the Imo State University, who allegedly fell into a soak away pit and  drowned while trying to escape  from his friends who were bent on pouring dirty water on him as part of the fun. An Ohio man has been arrested on sexual assault charges after a woman allegedly caught him raping a 3-year-old girl inside an abandoned garage. Charles Sadler, 34, of Columbus, was taken into custody Friday in connection to the alleged assault. According to police, a woman was driving in west Columbus when she heard a scream and saw a man, later identified as Sadler, raping a little girl in the 300 block of South Richardson Avenue. The Good Samaritan, who has children of her own, called 911 and followed Sadler for several blocks until officers responded to the scene and arrested him. Sadler's family told WSYX they thought the 34-year-old was 'passed out drunk somewhere' at the time of the incident. He is currently being held in the Franklin County Jail on $200,000 bond. Isiaka Adewale Najeem passed away in the early hours of Sunday the 7th of August 2016 at a church in Lagos after a mysterious illness. A landlord, Popoola Adepoju, has hanged himself in Idi-Ose community, along Akan Road, in the Ona Ara council area of Ibadan. The 48-year-old was reportedly found dangling from a rope tied to a ceiling fan in his room, with a three-page suicide note on the table. The widow of the father of three, who worked with the defunct National Electric Power Authority, reportedly found the corpse after she returned home on Tuesday. She reportedly told the police that her husband left NEPA in Abeokuta two years ago but his entitlement had yet to be paid, adding that he had started a cement business on small scale before the incident. A woman in her 60s is dead and five people have been left injured following possible terror attack in central London. A 19-year-old suspect was Tasered by police and arrested in the knife attack in Russell Square that began shortly before 10.30pm on Wednesday night. He remains under police guard in hospital. Terrorism as a motive is one possibility being explored by police at this stage. However, officers also said "mental health is a significant factor" in the case. Three men and two women were among the others injured. It is not known at this stage what condition they are in or the nature of their injuries.

Heavy rain in China has killed at least 87 people and forced thousands from their homes, state media reported on Saturday. Seventy-two people have been killed and 78 are missing in the northern province of Hebei after rain triggered floods and landslides, the Xinhua news agency reported, citing the civil affairs department. Nearly 50,000 homes have collapsed, it said. In the central province of Henan, 15 people were killed and eight were missing after thunderstorms and strong winds forced 72,000 people from their homes and damaged 18,000 houses. Altogether about 8.6 million people have been affected by the flooding, according to state media and local government reports. Large parts of China have been inundated with rain this summer, killing more than 200 people. More than 1.5 million hectares of crops have been damaged, leading to direct economic losses of more than 20 billion yuan ($3 billion), the government has said. Two brothers, Saidi and Idris Amadu, from Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State, have confessed to killing a woman, Rohimat Kehinde, and a girl, Fasilat Azeez, to implicate their eldest brother, Ayodele, over a family inheritance. The suspects said they were angry at their late father for giving Ayodele 40 cows and gave them 10 cows each as their own inheritance. Speaking during the week while being paraded by the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Samuel Okaula, in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, the suspects stated that they, in company of a fleeing suspect, Quadri Ayodele, killed the victims and pulled their corpses close to the residence of Ayodele to implicate him. There was confusion on Agbe Road in the Abule Egba area of Lagos State on Wednesday after a suspected kidnapper snatched a girl from her mother and attempted to escape with her on a motorcycle. Our correspondent learnt that the mother of the two-year-old, while raising the alarm that her daughter was abducted by the kidnapper, chased the motorcycle. PUNCH Metro gathered that her cry got the attention of some pedestrians and motorcyclists who also joined in the chase. Eric Avina pictured above is a middle aged HIV positive Malawian man whose responsibility it is to conduct "sexual cleansing" for underaged and also matured women in Nsanje district in southern Malawi.  Avina in his community is referred to as Hyena, a traditional title given to a man hired by communities in several remote parts of southern Malawi to provide what's called sexual "cleansing".  If a man dies, for example, his wife is required by tradition to sleep with Avina before she can bury him. If a woman has an abortion, she is expected to sleep with Avina to undergo cleansing. Also teenage girls, after their first menstruation, are made to have sex over a three-day period with Avina to mark their passage from childhood to womanhood. The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a private school teacher, Matthew Sodeke, for alleged child abuse in Igbala community in the Sango Ota area of the state. Our correspondent learnt that Sodeke, an English Language teacher, was caught sucking the private parts of a male pupil. The teacher was reportedly caught by a parent who had come to pick his child in the school. Neighbours of a woman, who died last Friday in a hotel in Ikotun, Lagos State, have opened up on what transpired shortly before her death. They said the deceased, who was identified only as Iya Ginika, had left home around 9pm on the day, telling her husband that she wanted to visit a friend in the neighbourhood. The residents told our correspondent on Tuesday that the woman, in her 50s, had claimed that she wanted to collect something from the friend. They added that they were shocked when news filtered in that she was found dead in Taola Hotel on Prince Adeyemi Street, Ikotun. The deceased lived on K & S Street, Abaranje Road - a few kilometres from the hotel. Apapa Magistrate Court The police have arrested a security guard of a public school in Lagos, Adeniyi Primary School, Itire, for allegedly raping an eight-year-old pupil. PUNCH Metro learnt that the 40-year-old suspect, Friday Oshoba, aka Mopol, committed the alleged crime while the primary 2 pupil, Mercy (pseudonym), was waiting for her sister to pick her up after the school closed around 2pm. Oshoba was said to have persuaded her to follow him to a deserted spot within the school and removed her underwear. He reportedly raped her afterwards. A 10-year-old girl allegedly raped by a kiosk operator in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has died after trying to stay alive in the hospital few days after the incident. The girl had gone to buy sachet milk at a housing estate in Rumuibekwe area of Port Harcourt about 8p.m. when she was allegedly defiled by a man identified as Mallam Bashir, who owns the kiosk. Bashir was arrested and detained by the police. According to a relative of the deceased, the girl died in a private hospital in Port Harcourt after doctors battled for days to save her life. A former Miss World contestant has died at the age of just 22 after losing her battle with cancer. Yumara Lopez represented Nicaragua in the international competition in 2014 when it was held in London. She had been diagnosed with a grade 2 astrocytoma, cancer of the brain, months earlier.  Since then she had been battling against the invasive disease, but sadly after almost two years, she died yesterday at the Alejandro Davila Bolanos Military Hospital in the Nicaraguan capital of Managua. May her soul rest in peace.
