Download Video: Adele Kisses Nigerian Fan on Stage, Thanks Him For It

It was a most rewarding gesture to a Nigerian fan who traveled all the way from  Nigeria  to see his music model perform live on stage. It came as a surprise when the English singer and songwriter,  Adele Laurie Blue Adkins ,  popularly called,  Adele , suddenly kissed him on stage and later said to him, "thanks for the kiss!" then laughed as the concert-goer got down on one knee in a mock proposal. She then added: "I love you too, thank you for coming to my show." It all happened when the  Hello  singer brought her fan up to the stage and was chatting with him when he revealed that he had travelled all the way from Nigeria. Touched, Adele went to kiss him on the cheek then burst out laughing after accidentally hitting his mouth. She then announced to the audience: "he just snogged me!" before taking a selfie with the delighted fan, while equally joking about the make of his phone as the audience cheered.

Manchester derby in China cancelled

Manchester United said Monday that its pre-season friendly with Manchester City in Beijing has been cancelled after torrential rains soaked the turf at the Bird's Nest Stadium venue. "Due to recent weather events, tournament organisers and participating clubs have decided to cancel tonight's International Champions Cup game," scheduled for Monday, Manchester United said in a statement. The International Champions Cup is a pre-season series of friendly exhibition association tournaments and was hosted in China for the first time in 2015. Flooding is not uncommon during the summer monsoon season in northern China, but rains have been unusually heavy across the country this summer. Rainstorms lashed the region this week, driving over 300,000 people from their homes and leaving hundreds of thousands more trapped as waters rose. More than 200 people have been left dead or missing in the neighbouring province of Hebei. AFP

IBB ousted me to stop Gusau's sacking for corruption -Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari said that he was kicked out of office on August 27, 1985 by the then Chief of Army Staff, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, because he was fighting corruption. Buhari, who was the military head of state for 18 months, said this during an exclusive with The Interview Magazine. He said the then Head of Military Intelligence, Aliyu Gusau, was allegedly involved in some sharp practices and he had recommended his sack from the military leadership. Buhari said the reason he insisted on Gusau's removal was because he did not want his anti-corruption war to appear one-sided. The President said, however, Gusau, Babangida and other officers teamed up and staged a coup thereby ousting him from office. Buhari said this while reacting to a December 2015 interview by Babangida in which he (Babangida) said the plan to remove Gusau had nothing to do with the 1985 coup. In his reaction, however, Buhari said, "I learnt that Gen. Ali Gusau, who was in charge

Bollywood star, Salman Khan, avoids jail

An Indian court on Monday acquitted Bollywood superstar Salman Khan of killing protected wildlife 18 years ago, ending the latest long-running case against the actor. Khan was convicted in 2006 of hunting rare gazelles while he was shooting a film in the northern state of Rajasthan eight years earlier. He was sentenced to one and five years in jail for two separate cases of shooting the animals, but the actor has filed appeals that have kept him from serving the stints. High Court judge Nirmaljit Kaur cleared the actor in both cases, ruling that the pellets recovered from the animals were not fired from Khan's gun. "The honourable high court has not agreed to the prosecution evidence or its documents in both the cases. Definitely, it's a good thing that an innocent man has received justice," Khan's lawyer Hastimal Saraswat told NDTV. The 50-year-old bachelor was not in court in the northern city of Jodhpur to hear the judgement. Indian courts are o

Joke: Leaving Dan In My Will

A lawyer meets with the family of a recently deceased millionaire for the reading of the will. "To my loving wife, Rose, who always stood by me, I leave the house and $2 million," the attorney reads. "To my darling daughter, Jessica, who looked after me in sickness and kept the business going, I leave the yacht, the business and $1 million." "And finally," the lawyer concludes, "to my cousin Dan, who hated me, argued with me and thought I would never mention him in my will. Well, you were wrong. Hi Dan!"

Le Guen: NFF has disgraced Nigeria - Onigbinde

Former coach of the Super Eagles, Adegboye Onigbinde, has blasted officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), over the botched appointed of Paul Le Guen as coach of the national team. The Executive Committee of the NFF, named Le Guen as Sunday Oliseh's replacement. But in a dramatic turn of events, the Frenchman rejected the role and claimed he never applied for the job, neither was he interested in coaching the former African champions. Onigbinde, who is a former FIFA/CAF Technical Advisor, says heads should have rolled in the Glass House. "A portion of FIFA rules talks about a game being brought into disrepute," Onigbinde told Completesportsnigeria.com. "The NFF by that singular act of shabbily handling the purported appointment and or recommendation of Le Guen and even making it a public discourse, to me, have brought Nigeria into disrepute and should have resigned or be sacked were it to be in other climes. "That a football federation in

Sunderland appoint Moyes coach

Sunderland AFC confirms the appointment of David Moyes as its new manager. Moyes, 53, has signed a four-year deal at the Stadium of Light. Speaking about the appointment, chairman Ellis Short said: "We are absolutely delighted to welcome David Moyes to Sunderland, who was by far and away our first choice. "He is a man whose football pedigree speaks for itself and is someone I have long admired. I have spoken with him on many occasions and I have always been hugely impressed. He was my number one managerial target for the last five appointments, but his desire to honour existing contracts meant we were not able to bring him to Sunderland previously. To be able to finally welcome him as our manager is fantastic news for the club. "The fact that David has committed to a four-year deal is a clear demonstration of his belief in what he can achieve here. It is our aim to become a better, stronger and more stable football club and with a manager of David's calib

Heavy rain kills 87 in China

Heavy rain in China has killed at least 87 people and forced thousands from their homes, state media reported on Saturday. Seventy-two people have been killed and 78 are missing in the northern province of Hebei after rain triggered floods and landslides, the Xinhua news agency reported, citing the civil affairs department. Nearly 50,000 homes have collapsed, it said. In the central province of Henan, 15 people were killed and eight were missing after thunderstorms and strong winds forced 72,000 people from their homes and damaged 18,000 houses. Altogether about 8.6 million people have been affected by the flooding, according to state media and local government reports. Large parts of China have been inundated with rain this summer, killing more than 200 people. More than 1.5 million hectares of crops have been damaged, leading to direct economic losses of more than 20 billion yuan ($3 billion), the government has said. The central bank on Friday issued a statement sa

Alcohol Linked to 7 Cancers

New research links alcohol with seven types of cancer. Writing in the journal Addiction, researchers at the University of Otago in New Zealand say alcohol has a causal association with cancer of the oropharynx, larynx, esophagus, liver, colon, rectum and female breast. While there has been evidence of an association between alcohol and cancer, the study claims it is causal, meaning it “directly causes cancer.” The study was large, taking into account 10 years of global data collected by groups such as the World Cancer Research Fund and the American Institute for Cancer Research and the International Agency for Research on Cancer. The risk of cancer from alcohol is largest among heavy drinkers, but affects both light and moderate drinkers as well. According to the study, alcohol was responsible for 5.8 percent of all cancer deaths in 2012. "We know that nine in 10 people aren't aware of the link between alcohol and cancer," Jana Witt of Cancer Research UK,

"The pact calls for LG Electronics to supply some parts to be used in telematic systems in Toyota's latest connected vehicles, which will be available for consumers in the United States and Europe." Brothers kill two to implicate sibling over inheritance

Two brothers, Saidi and Idris Amadu, from Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State, have confessed to killing a woman, Rohimat Kehinde, and a girl, Fasilat Azeez, to implicate their eldest brother, Ayodele, over a family inheritance. The suspects said they were angry at their late father for giving Ayodele 40 cows and gave them 10 cows each as their own inheritance. Speaking during the week while being paraded by the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Samuel Okaula, in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, the suspects stated that they, in company of a fleeing suspect, Quadri Ayodele, killed the victims and pulled their corpses close to the residence of Ayodele to implicate him. Our correspondent gathered that Ayodele - on the discovery of the corpses near his house - was arrested, charged to court and remanded in prison custody. A'Ibom consumers lament PHED's poor services, power outage

HUNDREDS of electricity consumers in Akwa Ibom State have criticised the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company for poor service delivery and prolonged power outage across the state. The consumers, who said this during the PHED Consumers' Forum on Friday, revealed that some employees of the power company extort money from consumers through improper billing or paying for PHED equipment before installation. The State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, Mr. Akamba Awah, said mass retrenchment of former PHED employees might have been responsible for the menace. "Inaccurate billings or crazy bills coupled with poor service, I believe, might be the direct result why consumers refuse to pay their bills," he said. The company, however, said that it lost over seven million kilowatt-hours, an equivalent of over N238bn, to direct electricity theft, in a month. Head, Revenue Protection Department, PHED, Mr. Nsika Udi, said that the direct tapping of energy, bes

Reshuffle of committees, fallout of APC's intervention -Marafa

A member of the Unity Forum who has been at loggerheads with the leadership of the Senate, Kabir Marafa, has described Thursday's reshuffle of the leadership of committees in the upper legislative chamber as a result of efforts the All Progressives Congress has been putting in place to end the crisis in the Senate. He said the party leadership had, in the last few days been busy reconciling the APC caucus in the Senate. Marafa spoke with State House correspondents on Friday shortly after he met behind closed doors with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The embattled President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, had on Thursday conceded the chairmanship of committees that lawmakers considered "juicy" to some members of the Senate Unity Forum, who, in 2015, opposed his candidacy and supported Senator Ahmed Lawan. Members of the forum, who got the chairmanship of the "juicy committees", included Marafa, who became the Chairman of th

Why I sent my boys to behead Todays Prints MD -Herbalist

He used to be a famous herbalist, whom some people, both far and near, ran to for help at his shrine at No. 8, Oloti area in Iragbiji, Osun State, since he took over from his father in 2006. But at the moment, 37-year-old Asimiyu Agboola, known as Alhaji, is cooling off in the custody of the police in Osun State for being the brains behind the killing of the Managing Director of Todays Prints, Olalekan Ogunranti, 45, who was kidnapped on May 16, 2016 in the state. Ogunranti's family had alerted the police when they lost contact with him on May 16 when he travelled to Osogbo on a business trip. They said an unknown person picked his call and claimed to have picked the SIM card on the floor at Iragbiji. Thus, they informed the Osun State police command and the Lagos State Investigation Bureau. A police source told journalists that the Inspector-General of Police's Intelligence Response Team moved in on the matter after weeks of "fruitless search" for the decea

EFCC releases Omisore, to charge ex-deputy gov for N4.7bn fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Friday released a former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, after 19 days in detention. It was learnt that Omisore was released on bail by the commission after meeting his bail conditions. The former deputy governor, who was declared wanted by the EFCC in May, was arrested on July 3, 2016 after N1.310bn was traced to the accounts of five companies allegedly belonging to him. The money was said to be part of the N4.7bn allegedly disbursed by a former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro and his two sons, Gbolahan and Babajide. The N4.7bn was said to have emanated from the account of the Office of the National Security Adviser in 2014 and then transferred to the Diamond Bank account of Sylvan McNamara, a company in which Obanikoro's sons are the signatories to its bank account. Omisore allegedly received the funds in four tranches from Sylvan McNamara between July and August 2014, a

I will continue to criticise APC government -Fayose

Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose on Friday said he would not stop being vocal in his criticism of the All Progressives Congress-led government despite attempts to keep him silent. Fayose was the guest on a personality programme on Fresh FM in Ibadan where he alleged that APC had deployed powers within its reach to intimidate him because of his criticism of the Federal Government. He said "I am being persecuted because I am vocal. Why some of us are talking today is because if we betray the masses, God will not forgive us. That is why people like us have to exhibit courage to speak the truth. And if you notice, they are leaving no stone unturned to cage me from commenting, but that cannot be possible. They cannot win this war. "I can't keep quiet, they can't shut my mouth. I am being persecuted but unfortunately I am becoming more popular. To this government, anybody in APC is considered as saint, but PDP people are rogues. That's why you see some of o

We're under pressure to sanction Sheriff, others -PDP

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has said that it is under pressure to sanction the factional national chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, and his supporters. The party disclosed this to journalists after the inauguration of its 89-man zoning committee headed by the Ebonyi State Governor, Mr. Dave Umahi. The zoning committee is saddled with the responsibility of allotting national offices to the six geo-political zones in the country. The elections into the offices are scheduled for August 17 at the party's convention in Port Harcourt. The PDP had already zoned the office of the national chairman to the South while the North is to produce the party's next presidential candidate. The spokesperson for the National Caretaker Committee of the party, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said, "The committee has been under pressure to wield the big stick against Sheriff and his group. "But we will continue to extend the olive branch, after

NAFDAC impounds N15m sex stamina drugs, others

The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control has in its recent operations in Gembu, Taraba State impounded unregistered drugs worth N15 million. The impounded drugs included Tramadol and Sildenafil combination. Joseph Asikpo, the state Co-ordinator of the agency, made this known at a media briefing in Jalingo on Friday. According to Asikpo, the drugs were evacuated in 20 sacks and seven cartons from some hidden stores in the area. He said the Tramadol and Sildenafil combination was an unregistered drug used by people in the area to enhance sexual performance. He said: "The problems associated with Tramadole alone outweigh its benefits because its indiscriminate use causes serious bodily harm. "This is because the drug has addictive tendency and it is responsible for several violent behaviour we see on the streets today." The coordinator said other illegal drugs seized included banned Analgin and Gentamycin injections, fake Swidar and

Diamond Bank, groups in face-off over workers' retrenchment

A coalition of civil society groups in the country has vowed to use all legal means necessary to fight Diamond Bank over its recent sacking of 400 workers. The coalition, in an email sent to our correspondent on Friday by its spokesperson and National Coordinator, Citizens Rights and Leadership Awareness Initiative, Mr. Peter Nwokolo, accused the bank of not following due process as required by extant labour laws and international best practices in the disengagement of the workers. The group had in a statement released earlier in the week accused the bank of falsehood, describing its explanation that the workers were sacked because of their non performance as a lie. It said investigation showed that "most of the sacked workers had indeed obtained appraisal scores in excess of the recommended score of 50 per cent and above, going by the bank's last performance index concluded in February 2016." Nwokolo, in his response to an email from Saturday PUNCH, said the

The National Agricultural Seed Council said on Friday that three seed companies had been de-listed for supplying adulterated seeds to farmers across the country. The Director General of the council, Dr. Olusegun Ojo, disclosed this in Abuja during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria. Ojo said there were some seed companies that did not comply with the standards of the council and the Ministry of Agriculture in terms of quality seeds supplied to farmers. He added that the three affected companies were caught supplying adulterated seeds to unsuspecting farmers. He said: "They were investigated and found guilty and de-listed according to their role, a situation that has led to decrease in crop production. "The affected companies stand de-listed until they meet all the requirements and ensure that only quality seeds of proven standards get to the Nigerian farmers." Ojo, who was silent on the names of the affected companies, added that farmers were edu

Park played the role of a "mother" during the volunteering and helped the girl and other children take baths, eat healthy food and go to school. It is senseless for PDP to zone presidency, chairmanship to the same region - Makarfi

The Peoples Democratic Party in Abuja on Friday inaugurated an 88-member zoning committee with a mandate to open the democratic space at its forthcoming national convention. The Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Malam Ahmed Makarfi, who inaugurated the committee, said the team had a week to conclude its assignment. According to him, there is no anointed candidate for any position and the short term will enable aspirants to know what positions have been zoned to each zone. Makarfi told the committee, headed by the Ebonyi Governor, Mr David Umahi, that "it is senseless for the party to zone both the presidency and chairmanship to the same region.'' He said the caretaker committee would not print one form for any specific office as was done in the past but that forms would be printed for offices as there were aspirants. "It doesn't make sense at all for the chairmanship of the party and the presidency is zoned to the north. "In party politics al

Rivers re-run: INEC denies alleged Yakubu, APC secret meeting

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied allegations by Rivers governor, Nyesom Wike, that its National Chairman, Prof. Mahmud Yakubu, had met secretly with All Progressives Congress (APC) officials. Wike had alleged that Yakubu met with APC Chairman in the state, Mr Davies Ikanya and Sen. Magnus Abe on Wednesday in Abuja. He had alleged that the action of the commission was inimical to credible legislative rerun elections scheduled for July 30 in Rivers. Deputy Director, Voter Education and Publicity in INEC, Mr Nick Dazang, admitted to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday that the meeting held but that it was a routine. He said that it was INEC's policy to meet with leadership of political parties involved in elections. "The INEC Chairman with three National Commissioners and two directors met with a delegation of the APC led by its Deputy National Chairman. "The meeting was routine and was earlier requested by the leadership
